Music on the Menu: Enhancing Mealtimes at Bow View Manor

You can literally hear the difference on the first floor at Bow View Manor, where the dining experience just got an upgrade!

After 100% of surveyed residents and staff in the first-floor dining room said “yes” to wanting music played during meals, the SPARQ Committee jumped into action.

With help from the IT team, they introduced a new sound system that makes it easy to play music during mealtimes. The system overcomes many of the challenges identified in previous attempts: multiple speakers fill every corner of the room with sound, the volume is balanced so it’s never too loud in one spot, and recreation staff no longer need to haul a speaker upstairs.

Supported by the Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre for Learning, Innovation & Quality, SPARQ Committees are The Brenda Strafford Foundation's dedicated quality improvement teams. They bring together residents, families, front-line staff, and corporate team members to make a real difference and influence change in the places they live and work.

A big thank-you to Recreation Therapy Aide Helen O. for championing this initiative!
